Flowering Peach Tree - Owning A Piece Of Oriental History

If the flowering cherry tree is a native of Japan, then its Chinese counterpart would have to be the flowering peach tree. These two tree types are actually the pillars of oriental gardens. Travel to the exotic localities of these wonderful countries and chances are, you'll experience a lot of gardens that have been built around cherry trees and peach trees.

The flowering peach tree, of course, is more popular for its fruits. Peaches are a staple of Western fruit baskets, after all. But for gardeners who desire a touch of extraordinary color for their backyard, the peach tree has a lot to offer. Its beautiful, 5-petaled flowers come in many hues, depending on the particular kind of peach tree. There are flowers with pink petals, and there are flowers with carnation petals. There are even flowers with striking orange and bright red colors! Aside from the magnificent splendor that their flowers can provide, peach trees are likewise desirable because of the pleasant aroma they can bless any environment with.

But just like the flowering cherry tree, the flowering peach tree is not an easy tree type to grow. Consider this as a friendly reminder.

The flowering peach tree is quite picky when it comes to soil requirements. It prefers a slightly acidic soil type, possessing of adequate water retention properties. Fertilization is not only recommended, it is made mandatory by the tree's incessant need for nitrogen. Also, a peach tree demands good amount of sunlight and fresh air for its optimal growth.

Though it doesn't grow as big as other trees, as it is capable of reaching a maximum of only 10 meters, the peach tree is nonetheless highly deciduous. You'll wonder where all those leaves will come from. Regular maintenance of the lawn is necessitated by this nature of the peach tree. If the gardener does not have the time, or if he cannot muster the commitment to care for this task, then a peach tree is not really the recommended tree type for him.

Nonetheless, despite all the challenges associated with the rearing of peach trees, they remain one of the world's most desirable garden trees. The sheer beauty of their flowers is enough to convince gardeners and horticulturists all over the world that the peach tree is worth every ounce of their investment and efforts.
